Eyjafjallajökull Volcano at Night

I finally found some time to scan and edit some additional images made in Iceland last May. I exposed image below, of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano, at midnight in Iceland’s notoriously high winds. For those of you familiar with the operation of a view camera, neither scenarios of darkness nor wind are conducive to successful large format photography. Anna and I positioned our Toyota Yaris (courtesy of Geysir) as a wind block and I set up the camera between the open door, close to the ground. I used a Fujinon 400T telephoto lens which I purchased exclusively for our Iceland trip and focused it to infinity, barely able to make out my composition on the ground glass.

New Photo Destinations for Spring

Winter began for us in early November and finally seems to be on its way out here in southeastern Idaho. I spent much of my spare time skiing and not photographing this winter. I chose to take a hiatus from photography in hopes to recharge my creativity and focus on other things. For those familiar with photographing with a view camera, you know how stressful and emotionally draining it can often be to chase the light and create compelling and creative images, albeit very rewarding. As the temperatures have been warming and the snowpack begins to diminish, I’m getting antsy to devote my time to being back in the field, as they say.
